I found this TED talk to be interesting Stefan made many good points about how good design is around us and how we don't notice it as much as we should. His list of good designs was very fascinating to me and found it to be quite funny.
My favorite part of his talk was the subway signs that said things like "strive for happiness" and "don't accept defeat". It is so true that people don't really look at them because they know what they say but the fact that these people redesigned them in a humorous sense made it creative.
It was very interesting to listen to Abrams talk because the show Lost is a very confusing show to me. He made an interesting comment about how viewers are more interested in shows and movies when they are left hanging or when there is a mystery. For example, in the movie, Jaws the shark is never completely seen you only see the fin throughout the entire movie.
"mystery is the catalyst to imagination" JJ Abrams
This quote caught me because mysteries create imagination and that is why viewers like them because they can imagine what happens in their minds so it's there way/story.
The reason that mysteries are a big part of Abrams life is because to him mystery is more important than knowledge and that a blank page is a magic box.
I really enjoyed Ken Robinson's talk the most because i agreed with a lot of what he said. He talked about how children have tremendous talents and are fearless. Like adults, kids will take a chance they are not frightened for being wrong. Where as adults don't want to be wrong and fear that. Robinson makes interesting points for creating on education systems that nurtures creativity. A interesting point that he makes that i found to be important was about intelligence and the three things we need to know about it; diverse, we see the world in sound, abstraction, movement and vision; dynamic, we are interactive and creativity is seen in different ways; and distinct, which is how people discover their talent and decide why they want to do what they are doing.
How good is good?
I chose this article last year as my final project in Type 1 to redesign. This article was a very inspirational design article and found it important to know. Sagmeister makes good points;
1. Strive for happiness
2. Don’t hurt anybody3. Help, others achieve the same
Now I would change that priority:
1. Help others
2. Don’t hurt anybody
3. Strive for happiness
one that i find very important is Good design + bad cause = bad, this is so true because there is no point to a design if the cause is bad, then it is a bad design.
